As part of our ongoing work on raising awareness on homelessness, Revo is looking to support the industry in a number of ways, including signposting to volunteering opportunities from now and over the Christmas period to help those without proper shelter as we work to eradicate rough sleeping once and for all.

Wherever you live in the country, Crisis has volunteering opportunities over Christmas. Areas include London, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Oxford, South Wales and Coventry. Volunteering opportunities include services (such as haircutting), photography, working in kitchens, and taking part in activities and entertainment. To find out more about opportunities in your area please go here.

Shelter’s London Sleep Walk 2019 is being held on the 3rd December 2019. It is a 10km walk arond London, beginning at Waterloo, going past Tower Bridge, St Paul’s and Covent Garden before finishing back at Waterloo. Shelter is looking for volunteers at their two cheer points along the route as well as handing out branded materials the walkers among many other things. To find out more details and to sign up please go here.

St Mungo’s offers help across the South East of England to those living and sleeping rough. There are a number of all-year round volunteering opportunities available on their website here. This includes volunteering for a number of activities and skills, such as a yoga instructor, music group volunteer and cookery volunteer, as well as operational and office support opportunities.

The Big Change fund in Manchester supports individuals who are homeless by paying for items they need, for example - a deposit for a home, a training course, clothes for a job interview or travel costs. This provides tangible routes of homelessness for those experiencing it.

The Street Support Network is an independent organisation that is a trusted source of information on homelessness. They provide advice, financial help and sign post to support services and volunteering opportunities in areas around England, including Manchester, Luton, Blackpool, Liverpool, Portsmouth and Southampton. Street Support Network allows you to see whether your skills are needed in your area, and other organisations can post help needed on the site. To find volunteering opportunities please see what skills are needed here.

Whilst Christmas is often a time where homelessness is at the forefront of many of our minds, it is an all-year round problem that needs attention 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Future Work:

Over the next couple of months, we will be releasing further case studies and big ideas from both retail and other industries on how they are trying to address homelessness.

Read our case study on Social Bite here and Pret Foundation here.

We will also be releasing toolkits on recognising vulnerability to homelessness and the impact of in-work poverty, and encouraging compassionate ways to manage rough sleeping in your area.

We will also be signposting to volunteering opportunities from now and over the Christmas period to help those without proper shelter as we work to eradicate rough sleeping once and for all.

Keep up-to-date with the latest work we are doing in this area on Twitter and LinkedIn.

At Revo, we support the people and businesses involved in the diverse world of retail property and placemaking to thrive and prosper. Get in touch to find out more.
