Salmon Harvester will complete work on the Cathedral Square’s redevelopment in spring 2017.
Salmon purchased this part vacant and neglected shopping centre in 2013 and, through pro-active asset management/redevelopment has created a new retail and leisure asset which will redefine the shopping and leisure pitch in this Cathedral City.
The redevelopment, now over 95% pre-let has utilised the former vacant space in the scheme to provide 8 new restaurant units situated over two levels, let to the likes of Byron, Yo! Sushi and All Bar One; a new gym let to Fitness4less; an extension to H&M and a brand new unit for Wilkos.
Technically challenging involving partial demolition and then a rebuild in a city centre conservation area whist tenants continued to trade throughout. The complex scheme required demolition of two storeys of the original centre above Pizza Express, as well as a further two storeys of the former Giffard Hotel which was situated underneath the existing 6-storey Travelodge. Supported by temporary works the existing concrete frame was remodelled. All this was done with minimal disruption to trade and occupiers surrounding the site including H&M, Travelodge, NCP and the Grade 1 star listed Worcester Cathedral.
Working in Partnership with Worcester City and County Council, the development has re-routed a highway and created of a brand new public realm - Cathedral Square – situated opposite Worcester’s Grade 1 listed Cathedral.
CrownGate Shopping Centre.
A vibrant shopping destination in the heart of Worcester city centre, CrownGate Shopping Centre is well established as a go-to destination of choice for over 13m shoppers annually. Extending to over 300,000 sq ft, CrownGate is divided into two separate shopping areas Friary Walk and Chapel Walk together with a dedicated food quarter.
Friary Walk has something for everyone as well as access to the City Centre’s bus station and a large car park with 750 spaces. Occupiers include Mothercare, Iceland, New Look, Superdrug and Vision Express. Subject to planning, there are proposals to significantly improve the front elevation to the shopping centre and introduce new occupiers.
Chapel Walk features a diverse fashion and dining mix, including Primark, House of Fraser, Phase Eight, Carluccio’s, Bills, GBK and JoJo Maman Bébé. Leading household names are complemented by an exciting selection of boutique operators, while Huntington Hall Theatre creates a vibrant cultural attraction.
This year marks the centre’s 25th birthday, an opportunity for celebration as well as reflection and the start of a period of transformation.
