It is perhaps this relative ambivalence towards the EU that got us to where we are, and I am sure former French President, François Mitterrand is looking down on us with that ‘I told you so’ expression on his face.
50 years later it was of course the British public that, marginally, declared ‘non’ - or more accurately ‘laisser’."
